This certification is intended to protect the natural, cultural, scientific and recreational values \u200b\u200bof this area, which is part of the largest <a href=\"https:\/\/villamontes.pt\/serradoacor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">schist mountain of the country<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, with\u00a0particular patrimonial value, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/villamontes.pt\/margaraca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Margara\u00e7a Forest<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong> and a curious geological accident, the\u00a0<strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/villamontes.pt\/fragadapena\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fraga da Pena<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong>, which hides a waterfall flanked by abundant vegetation, a scenario that leaves no one indifferent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/villamontes.pt\/margaraca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Margara\u00e7a Forest<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a> It is one of the oldest and best preserved forests in Portugal, with historical records dating back to the 19th century. It is a geological accident that gives rise to a set of several waterfalls along a permanent watercourse, forming several natural pools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/villamontes.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/G00401511_HDR-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4026\" width=\"581\" height=\"436\"\/><figcaption>Fraga da Pena waterfall<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<blockquote>\n<p>Of the local fauna, the goshawk stands out, the bird of prey that gave its name to the Serra and is a symbol of the Protected Landscape Area, which coexists with other birds such as the owl and the hawk.
